"Unless women are prepared to fight politically they must be content to be ignored politically. " -Alice Paul

Hi, I'm Lisa. I'm a huge ass history nerd. I'm a women's historian.I study European and US women's history. I am most interested in women's suffrage, especially US and British suffrage.

Anonymous: How is reverse sexism part of patriarchy rather than separate from patriarchy?

The stereotypes that hurt men like men don’t cry, boys don’t like pink, etc. are all created in and enforced in patriarchy. Patriarchy reinforces the notion that women must be emotional and men must not be. Patriarchy reinforces the notion that men must be strong and if they are weak they are “pussies” or “sissies.” If men are not strong, they are like women. That is a sexist notion because it is saying women are weak and men cannot be like women since they are bad. Men cannot be emotional because women are emotional. All the things that hurt men come from the fact that patriarchy degrades everything that is associated with women and femininity. So to end the gender stereotypes that say men must be strong, masculine, etc. we have to make everything that is associated with femininity valued the way masculinity is.
